Keeping the configuration stored in a centralized location is a great idea. Though i’m not sure that the Datastore is the best place for it, i wouldn’t want a DB call each time my application is spooled up to load basic configuration info.

If you’re using Django on the project, I see no reason not to put the configuration in it’s settings.py and monkey-patch boto config to search there instead.

Really nice post, should prove very useful to a lot of developers as storage rolls out to everyone. Also it looks like it should be pretty simple to monkey patch in App Engine support to the boto library, and keeping the .config method but perhaps reading the configuration from the Datastore or Blobstore. Any thoughts?

What a wonderful letter. Doesn’t sound like rambling at all to me. I wish I had have had the same opportunity with my own Dad who passed away nearly 6 years ago.
